Just a reminder, I have a copy of the cruise log from the 107th Seabees WW2 if anyone needs information about someone serving at that time. Also, I have the yearbooks of MCB 11 on CD from the 1960-61 deployment to Guam. I have the 1967 yearbook on CD from the MCB 11 deployment to Viet Nam, 1967.

My Uncle ORA GROOM was a World War Two Seabee. He was on Okinawa near Yonobaru welding ships. I know nothing more about him-as he died in 1982. I was twelve when he told me about Okinawa and the Jap that came running out of the cane field at him-he was working on a jeep-he turned and sprayed him with his Thompson-then took a few souveniers-a Japanese bayonet and and first aid kit that I still have. The rest of the time he welded up holes in ships-caused by Kamikazes or so he said:-) I would love to know more about the Construction Battalion that he served in and where he went-I don't even have a picture of him. He was kind of a black sheep in the family as he went off to join the Navy when the rest of the family were stuck to work on the farm-this is another reason why I know so little about him-they were still bitter years later. He was a little guy-but a real character-I miss him:-)! If any of you ol' Sea Dogs knew him or know how I can find ou more about him-I sure would appreciate a helping hand! Thank you. Harlan Glenn Groom. By the way-this last March 2002 I went to Iwo Jima, Saipan and Peleliu-what an adventure!!! On Saipan I found in the jungle a road made of stones that the seabees made for the Marines that led right up to the face of the mountain-used to bring up supplies-found lots of relics-if you goto my website-click on the Saipan/Iwo/Peleliu Photo Album button-in there I have about 50 images from the trip. I love military History and also worked on that History Channel show "Dangerous Missions" SeaBees-I was the Military Coordinator-hope you guys enjoyed it-as much as we enjoyed making it. Good to go! HGG out.

Billy Millican;

This is a great site. I have found many of my fellow Bees that I served with and still keep in touch with them. One thought though, why not add a "Help Wanted" page to this wonderful site? Many of us are still in the trades and are constantly seeking good, quality guys...and I often wish that I could get the guys from my old Alfa Co. index.html together because "The difficult we did immediately...The impossible took us a little bit longer."

Hi Folks, There is an online petition being taken to urge the D.O.D. to award a medal to those who served during the Cold War Era. I personally feel that we (I served 61-64) deserve some recognition for our service to our country. The Congress approved the issuance of the medal and the money is already in the budget, but D.O.D.(Sec. Rumsfeld) for some reason has decided not to do it. I would appreciate it if you would think it over,and if you agree with me,go to the site and sign the petition. You DO NOT have to be a Cold War Veteran to sign,just a citizen of the U.S.A.. Thanks, Charlie Moy..A,2/12TH..61-63 ..E,(later B) 1/16th..63-64 Big Red One The Website....... www.PetitionOnline.com/pfcmongo/petition.html
