Navy Seabee Veterans of American - Guestbook

Comments:
My father was born in Jersey City, New Jersey 1923 did not finish high school, enlisted instead in Army before 41' but his building skills were too advanced so he was discharged from Army and enlisted in Navy and served as a Seabee in The Aleutians. His name was Edwin Eckler, Jr.
How do I look up his Seabee history? Thank you. Bob Eckler
PS My father died a little over a year ago. He was a very modest man and people gravitated to him for his advice and help. I noticed once that a simple handshake and a voiced "thank you" from someone he had assisted would make him smile very briefly and his verbal response was always how it was not possible without someone else's help. He always diverted the credit, embarressed by praise. He once refused a good promotion preferring to stay and work with his team of men rather than a desk/office job. He was a millwright at Colgate Polmolive in Jersey City. Thanks for your help Bob

Itg would be great to hear from anyone who was stationed with me.

In 1951 was in Guantanamo, for five months after school at Pt. Hueneme. Then to Port Lyautey six months, then Argentia six months, then back to Lyautey 18 months then dischared. All that took four years. I was a UT, made third class right before I got out. In cuba we were on an APL barge at Bay Hill. Right next to the big mess hall and the outdoor theater.I was in Davisville between the deployments.

Maybe we knew each other. I am from New Orleans. I was 18 when I joined. Ill be 80 in August. Let me know if we were stationed together.

An old Seabee I was stationed with in Vietnam contacted me recently. We were at a base called Sea Float/Solid Anchor. It was a mile away from the most southern tip of Vietnam and the memories of that place are BURNED in my mind. Any time I think I have it bad, I think of that place and all gets better. Type in Solid Anchor on Google and you'll see what I mean. My old buddy and I are going to meet up soon, he only lives about 30 miles from me. See ya soon Phil.

Hi - Im looking for info about my grandfathers uncle, Johannes Jakob Andersen (maybe John Andersen?) who immigrated to USA in 1924.

I have been told about him that he participated in the Pacific War as a SEABEE, he should have been posted in Okinawa, in 101 "department" - know that is not military term .

I hope that you maybe have some information about him, pictures from the time/place.

Kind regards
Nina
